Rural Organic Farms

Here in Northeast Wisconsin we are blessed with many local farmers that are providing us with real, whole food. This past weekend I enjoyed the Rural Arts Roadtrip and visited some of these local farms. While there were many talented artists and crafters, I ended up spending my money on food…naturally :)

My first stop was Sunrise Valley Organics; a great health food store in the Stockbridge area. Here I bought beef liver and ground turkey but they have a wonderful selection of beef, pork, chicken, eggs as well as supplements, essential oils and other health related items.

My next stop was Meuer Farms off Hwy 151 just outside of Stockbridge. This store has a selection of grains & flours that are grown and milled right there at the farm. I bought some rolled oats and Emmer Flour (an ancient grain) to use in future baked goods. They also sell eggs and honey that comes from the chickens & honey bees they raise there on the farm as well.

Next, I stopped at LaClare Farms just outside of Pipe. This place has everything goat you could possibly need! From goat cheese, milk, yogurt, and meat to lotions and soaps made with goat milk. They have a great selection of other local WI cheeses as well as beer, wine, maple syrup and balsamic vinegar. If that isn’t enough, they also have a restaurant with a diverse, seasonal menu.

My last stop was at Grassway Organic Farm Store located on Plymouth Trail Road outside of New Holstein. I have been shopping at this store for the past 9 years because they have such a wide selection of organic, high quality foods, including raw milk. Here I bought a whole chicken, loose leaf tea, flax seeds, eggs and chocolate macaroons (my guilt-free treat :) ). In addition to food they also sell personal care and cleaning products, books, crafts and apparel.

A couple other local farms I want to include, but were not a part of the Rural Arts Roadtrip, are Misty River Farms out near Cleveland that sells goat, pork and grass-fed beef. And Golden Bear Farms, a certified organic farm that produces grass-fed beef & pastured pork located just outside of Kiel on Lax Chapel Road.

These farms are just a sneak peek at some of the places you can buy real, whole organic food in the area. We don’t have to travel or live in the big city in order to have access to such quality food…it is right here in our backyards. I encourage you to visit these farms for yourself if you haven’t already. The foods and products each place provides will enrich your meals, your homes and ultimately your health.

Health & Blessings,

Aaryn
